  Hari Vishnu

Dr. Hari Vishnu is a Research Fellow at the Acoustic Research Laboratory, National University of Singapore. Prior to this, he obtained his Ph.D degree from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and B. Tech from NIT, Calicut, India. His current research interests are in underwater acoustic modelling, deep-sea resource exploration, acoustic vector sensors and bio-acoustic signal processing in impulsive noise. Hari has been an active IEEE member since 2005. He has been in the organizing committee of several international conferences and technical workshops, and serves as reviewer on many reputed journals. Hari is the Chief Editor on the OES Science outreach magazine Earthzine. In 2019, he was awarded the IEEE Oceanic Engineering society's YP-BOOST award which aims to encourage young professionals to participate in the leadership of the society by attending OES meetings, being involved in the diverse committees, and helping with different aspects of the IEEE OCEANS conferences.


Bharath Kalyan

Vice Chair

Bharath Kalyan is currently with Acoustic Research Laboratory (ARL), TMSI, National University of Singapore where he manages myraid projects on Deepsea mining & marine robotics. Prior to joining ARL, he was a research staff at Intelligent Robotics Lab, Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore where he worked on various underwater projects, primarily focusing on underwater sensing & navigation for surface & undersea vehicles. He was awarded a PhD by NTU for his research work on autonomous underwater vehicle navigation. His research interests include collective intelligence, deepsea mining, co-operative marine robotics, AUV navigation, target tracking, random finite sets. 

Chi Cheng

Cheng is currently a Research Fellow at the ARL. His research interests focus on underwater acoustical signal processing, imaging and communication. He obtained his Ph.D degree in July 2016 from Peking University (PKU), Beijing, China. His Ph.D thesis was about real-time 3-D acoustical imaging. He received the B.Eng. degree in electronic engineering from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in 2011. 

Cheng Siong Chin

Dr. Cheng Siong Chin is currently an Associate Professor at Newcastle University in Singapore. Before joining Newcastle University, he was a Lecturer in Mechatronics Engineering at Temasek Polytechnic. He worked in electronics industry for several years before moving into academia. Since 2013, he obtained 2 research grants from Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) and 2 Industrial Postgraduate Programme (EDB-IPP) on his research areas in high endurance and sustainable mechatronic systems design, acoustic modeling and prediction. He has 3 US patent awards on printed circuit cable assembly and electronic device torsion testing of the one-inch hard disc drive. He has published nearly 80 journal papers, book chapters, and conference papers. He had authored a book entitled Computer-aided Control Systems Design: Practical Applications using MATLAB and Simulink published by CRC Press, USA, 2012. He is Fellow of the Higher-Education Academy (FHEA), Fellow of IMarEST (FIMarEST), Senior Member of IEEE (SMIEEE), Chartered Engineer, European Engineer and a member of IET. He involves in IEEE Technical Committee Member on Biomechatronics and Bio-robotics Systems, Session Chair for MTS/IEEE OCEAN 2014 and 2016 and Technical Committee for various international conferences.


Too Yuen Min

Since 2015, Yuen Min has been with the Acoustic Research Laboratory (ARL), where he was a Research Engineer, and is currently a Research Fellow. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), National University of Singapore (NUS), in 2017. His research interests include signal processing, acoustic sensing and machine learning in complex underwater environments. 



Manu Ignatius

Committee Member

Manu Ignatius (M’14) received the B.S. degree in electronics and communication engineering from Mahatma Gandhi University College of Engineering, Kerala, India, and the M.S. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore, in 2004 and 2010, respectively. Currently, he is a member of the core technology team at Subnero, a Singaporebased startup, which focuses on developing underwater communication, navigation, monitoring, and sensing technology and solutions. Before joining Subnero, he worked at several multinational companies in the field of embedded systems and computer networks.


Anshu Singh

Committee Member

Anshu is Research Engineer at Acoustic Research Laboratory (ARL), TMSI, National University of Singapore.His research work mostly focuses on real time algorithm designs for Underwater acoustic communication and acoustic imaging signal processing. He graduated with a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from National University of Singapore and a Bachelors degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology.
